![]() I’m going to share with you the series of events I’ve dealt with since being first diagnosed with Postpartum Depression. I hope this will give you a clear explanation of why a suicide epidemic is sweeping this great nation. I, first, came aware of my symptoms in August of 2014, just a few months after my daughter was born. It did not hit me at first, which is often misconceived. Prior to having my daughter, I dealt with a very hard pregnancy. It was physically damaging to my body, inside and out and because of it I was emotionally damaged, but I didn’t realize it at the time. I believe that if I had started treatment during pregnancy, my PPD may not have been as bad initially. When I finally went to my OB for help. She prescribed me Lexapro. Although I suffered from depression and anxiety most my life, I had never been on antidepressants. Lexapro was my first. After a month or so, I noticed things not getting better. I discussed my issues with my OB again and she referred me to a local mental health facility to assist me with therapy and medication. Unfortunately, the help I needed was out of her expertise.
